5 Essential Foyer Pieces to Create the Perfect First Impression of Your Home

They say you never get a second chance to make a first impression - this statement is true for your home as well. Whether you live in a home with a grand entry or in a small apartment that opens right into your living space, your home’s entry is the first thing visitors will see and it’s what you see each and every time you come home. I have pulled together some of my essential elements to designing beautiful yet functional entry spaces.

A Functional Console Table

Having a place to set down your keys, sunglasses or mail is essential to a functional entry space. Making it a beautiful piece of furniture that you can dress up with flowers or a bowl to corral such items is even better.

If space allows, I like to choose a console table that has drawers so you can tuck your personal items away, leaving space on the surface area to hold decorative items that look lovely. A fresh bouquet of flowers is a great way to greet your guests when they come over and it is a beautiful thing for you to see after a long day.Find yours here.

A Mirror to Bring in Light

I always like to have a mirror hung right at the entry - I actually have two, one inside above my console table and one outside on my porch. I like to be able to check myself one last time before I leave the house, and my guests ALWAYS comment on how they like to get a quick peek at themselves before they come in.

Mirrors are also a great way to bring in light - this is especially good if your entry is a bit dark. As an added bonus, mirrors help make the space feel larger, which greatly benefits smaller spaces. Grab yours here.

Lighting for Beautiful Ambiance

If your home is large enough or if your ceilings are high enough to have a beautiful chandelier or pendant light hung in the center of your entry way, you are very lucky and I am very jealous. If your space doesn’t allow for that (like mine) then I opt for using table lamps atop the console table.

Table lamps add beauty to the vignette (I put beads on these white lamps to add some color) as well as being practical. I like to put my entry table lamps on a timer so that my entry space always feels inviting when people come over in the evening and will give the impression that someone is home even when we are not. Make it yours here.

Baskets for Practical Storage

I like to choose console tables that allow for storage underneath and I use baskets in these areas to help store shoes and other items (backpacks, etc.). These baskets not only look pretty, but they are a great storage solution for these areas and can conceal many items which otherwise clutter a space. Get it here.

Decorative and Functional Accessories

I love any decorative element that can also be used in a practical manner. If your entry piece doesn’t have storage, a small tray, bowl or box can help corral small items like keys or sunglasses. It will not only add to the visual beauty of the vignette, but it will serve a purpose, as well. And even though my home state of California doesn’t see much rain, I do love a beautiful umbrella stand or vase. Find yours here.

An area rug is another element I like to use in an entry if space allows. It is a great way to make a space feel warm and inviting. A coat rack or hooks are also great to add to entry spaces, especially if you don’t have a coat closet nearby. And a small bench or some type of seating is also great, especially if you live in a home where shoes are left at the entry.
